Last week saw some interesting developments for two very different brands. Firstly, there was the announcement that ‘brand Beckham’ is to be unleashed onto the US market. The move makes Beckham the highest paid sports personality by a long, long way on almost £500,000 a week.

The other big news was the announcement of Apple’s new iPhone. As if this announcement wasn’t enough to create a stir on the ‘blogosphere’, the furore that followed when Cisco Systems revealed it had filed a lawsuit against Apple for using the iPhone brand (which is owned by Cisco), meant that the buzz around the story was boosted to no end. As they say, (and as the chart below shows) “there’s no such thing as bad publicity. Using the ever-present news items relating to Iraq as a measure, the chart shows what people have been talking about this week on the blogosphere.
